La Rochelle et son histoire


    Les deux tours du Vieux Port, la tour de gauche s'appelle la tour de la Chaîne car il y avait une chaîne qui la à l'autre tour, la tour saint Nicolas.
Ces deux tours ont été construites au XIV siècle.

    Pendant le siège de La Rochelle en 1627, une chaîne entre les deux tours fermait le port, empêchant tout bateau de venir en aide aux Rochelais. Ce siège était imposé par les catholiques qui voulait reprendre la ville aux protestants Rochelais.

    Au XVIIème siècle, ces deux tours étaient la dernière chose du Vieux Continent que voyaient les émigrants partant pour le nouveau monde.

    Au XVIIIème siècle, le port de La Rochelle a largement participé au commerce des esclaves venus d'Afrique et envoyés dans les plantations en Amérique.

La Rochelle and its history

The two towers of the Old Port. The tower on the left is called the tower of the Chain because there was a chain which connected it to the tower Saint Nicolas. 

They were built in the XIV century. During the siege of La Rochelle in 1627, a chain between the two towers closed the port, preventing any boat from coming to assistance of Rochelais. This siege was imposed by the catholics who wanted to take again the city from the Rochelais Protestants

.In the XVII century, those two towers was the last sight of the Old Continent for the emigrants to the new-World.

In the XVIIIème century, the port of the La Rochelle largely took part in the trade of the slaves from Africa and send them in the plantations to America.


           

Aujourd'hui, La Rochelle est une ville très touristque et possède le plus grand port de plaisance d'Europe : les Minimes!

Nowadays, La Rochelle is a touristic city and the marina is the largest in Europe !
